TOWN OF DAVIE PARTNERS WITH BROWARD COUNTY TO INSTALL THE "SILHOUETTE HERD" PUBLIC ART PIECE located at Pine Island Pocket Park
January 13, 2022
DAVIE, Fla. – In collaboration with the Broward Cultural Division’s Public Art and Design program, the Town of Davie welcomed a new art piece, the “Silhouette Herd”, at the Pine Island Pocket Park located on the northeast corner of Pine Island Road and SW 21st Street.
Created by artist Wendy Klemperer, the “Silhouette Herd” sculptures of five galloping horses measure between 6 to 12 feet tall and are made of steel, treated with a variety of patina to depict different colors. The art was selected for its resonance with Davie’s rural atmosphere, western theme and equestrian lifestyle.
The Pine Island Pocket Park is a 1.3-acre passive park that includes a walking path, shrubbery and trees. The park was selected for public art placement to enhance its visual appearance.
“As a member of the Broward Cultural Council for more than five years, I welcome and fully embrace this art piece in our community,” said District 2 Councilmember Caryl Hattan. “I actively participated in the planning and selection of the design and display location. I see the arts as a way to bring our society closer together and celebrate our heritage.”
These sculptures are the third public art piece installed at a Town of Davie park or facility. Other art pieces completed in partnership with the Broward Cultural Division include murals called “Run…” located on the east side of the Pine Island Multipurpose Center, 3801 S. Pine Island Road and “A Living History” located at the Old Davie School Historical Museum, 6650 Griffin Road.
“The aesthetic of this new piece is truly phenomenal,” said Jeffrey Pohlman, the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Director. “Installation of the “Silhouette Herd” has brought the passive pocket park along Pine Island Road to life. Its design enhances the park and accurately embodies the Town of Davie’s equestrian roots. I hope residents and visitors alike will enjoy these life-size sculptures as much as we do.”
