Larry Poons, Rattled (90A-8), 1990
Acrylic and mixed media on canvas, 90 1/2 x 88 x 6 1/2 in.
In the 1990s, Larry Poons's work shifted to a new "Particle" series, moving away from his earlier pouring and throwing techniques towards a more tactile, sculptural approach. He began attaching various materials like foam and rubber to the canvas, creating elaborate textures and "under-drawings" that influenced the final compositions. This period saw him return to using paintbrushes and working on large, wall-sized rolls of canvas from which he would later crop individual paintings.
