BIOGRAPHY
Clothes dominate the space in Alberto Magnani’s canvases: piles of jeans, men’s jackets, colorful ties, elegant shirts and occasionally shoes. In the tradition of the American photorealism these everyday items are revived through the brush of this Italian painter. Inspired by Giotto’s 14th century frescoes, by the subjects’ form, materials and shadows, Magnani’s artwork brings all these aspects into the present-day realism. In the days of media and celebrity fashion trendsetting and control, Magnani’s oils have an immediate impact on the viewer. Larger than life, his clothes become an entity on their own, amazing in their technicality, color and shape. The artist concentrates on each item individually giving the viewer different textural feels and slowly revealing the contents of the stylish gentleman’s closet.
